The next album, 1994's I'm Ready, did even better, going double-platinum on the strength of the title track and "Can We Talk." But as Campbell grew into adulthood, he struggled to maintain his audience. With hits like the slow-dance jam "Tell Me What You Want Me to Do" and the New Jack number "Just Ask Me," it went platinum and certified Campbell as a teen star.
His debut album, 1992's T.E.V.I.N., arrived amidst considerable buzz. It became a crossover hit and earned Campbell the first of eight career Grammy nominations. His next appearance came via "Round and Round" on Prince's Graffiti Bridge soundtrack. The Texas singer made a precocious debut at the tender age of 12 on Quincy Jones' comeback album Back on the Block, sending the hopeful single "Tomorrow (A Better You, Better Me)" to the top of the R&B charts. Blessed with a light yet sturdy voice, Tevin Campbell was a mainstay on urban radio stations in the early '90s.
